FAQ

I bought the book at a store. Do I get a free ebook?

Yes you do! Please email info@midlifebook.ca with proof of purchase and we will send you the ebook files free of charge.

How do I load the ebook onto my device?

Once you complete your purchase, a order confirmation email will be sent to you containing download links for the ebook.

The links will be in a table will be in the middle of your invoice, and the links to click are in the right-hand column. A screenshot is below.

You can download the ebook in two different formats:

  1. EPUB for most e-readers (including Apple’s Books, Kindle, Google Play, and Kobo)
  2. MOBI for older Kindles 

Instructions are below for loading the ebook on various devices after you have received the email with download links.

Loading the EPUB onto Books, Google Play, or Kobo apps through your iPhone or iPad
  1. Tap the EPUB link in your email. Your phone will switch to your default browser and you will see a popup asking “Do you want to download “Midlife.epub”?” Tap “Download” on the popup. 
  2. Your browser will download the file. Find the file one of two ways:
    • Tap the downloads folder for your browser (a down arrow in a circle) and tap the Midlife file in the menu, or 
    • Find the Files app on your phone and tap the Midlife file in the app. 
  3. The Midlife file should now be seen on screen as a filename and filesize. Tap the Share icon at top right to pull up a panel from the bottom of the screen. Scroll sideways through the list of apps and tap your desired reading app – the EPUB will work with Books (Apple’s preinstalled default), Google Play, or Kobo.
  4. The book will open in your desired reading app and should be ready for reading immediately.
Loading the EPUB onto Google Play Books through your Android device
  1. If you do not have it already, first install the Google Play Books app and sign up for an account.  
  2. Tap the EPUB link in your email. Your phone will switch to your default browser and download the file. A status bar will appear at the bottom of your browser window with the filename and the word “Open.” Tap Open to go to the Downloads list for your browser. 
  3. You will see the EPUB file in your list of downloads. Tap the filename and the book will open in Google Play Books. The book should download immediately and will be ready for reading.
Loading the EPUB onto the Kobo app through your Android device
  1. If you do not have it already, first install the Kobo app and sign up for an account.  
  2. Tap the EPUB link in your email. Your phone will switch to your default browser and download the file.
  3. Open the Kobo app and tap the three dots in the upper right corner. Tap “Import Items” from the menu. Allow Kobo to access your files to find the EPUB.
  4. A list of available books should show on screen. Select the Midlife book from the list and add it to your Kobo app. The book should download immediately and will be ready for reading.
Loading the EPUB onto your Kobo Reader from your computer
  1. Click the EPUB link in your email. Your browser will automatically download the file to your downloads folder.
  2. Please follow the instructions from Kobo to transfer the file to your Kobo.
Reading the EPUB on your computer
  1. Click the EPUB link in your email. Your browser will automatically download the file to your downloads folder.
    • On a Mac, you can now double click the EPUB and it will open in Books, the default ebook reader.
    • On a PC, there are lots of options for readers, but one of the easiest is Google Play Books if you have a Google account. Visit play.google.com/books; make sure you’re signed in, then click Upload files. You can drag the book from your Downloads folder right into that window. Once you’ve uploaded it to Play Books, you can read it in any web browser and also in the Google Play Books apps for Android and iOS.
Loading the EPUB or MOBI onto Kindle through your iPhone or iPad
  1. If you do not have it already, first install the Kindle app and sign up for an account.  
  2. Tap the MOBI (or EPUB) link in your email. Your phone will switch to your default browser and you will see a popup asking “Do you want to download “Midlife.mobi”? (or “Do you want to download Midlife.epub?)” Tap “Download” on the popup. 
  3. Your browser will download the file. Find the file one of two ways:
    • Tap the downloads folder for your browser (a down arrow in a circle) and tap the Midlife file in the menu, or 
    • Find the Files app on your phone and tap the Midlife file in the app. 
  4. The Midlife file should now be seen on screen as a filename and filesize. Tap the Share icon at top right to pull up a panel from the bottom of the screen. Scroll sideways through the list of apps and select the Kindle app icon. 
  5. A “Send to Kindle” screen will pop up.
    • Enter anything in the Author Name box (it won’t matter when the file is loaded)
    • If you own multiple devices with Kindle apps installed, and/or a standalone Kindle device, tap the right arrow next to “Deliver to Devices” to select which devices you wish to send the book to.
    • Hit Send when done.
  6. Open your Kindle app or Kindle device. The book should download immediately and will be ready for reading.
Loading the EPUB or MOBI onto Kindle through your Android device
  1. If you do not have it already, first install the Kindle app and sign up for an account.  
  2. Tap the MOBI (or EPUB) link in your email. Your phone will switch to your default browser and download the file. A status bar will appear at the bottom of your browser window with the filename and the word “Open.” Tap Open to go to the Downloads list for your browser. 
  3. You will see the MOBI (or EPUB) file in your list of downloads. Tap the three dots at the right of the filename and tap “Share” in the menu. Select “Send to Kindle” from the options shown.
  4. A “Send to Kindle” screen will pop up.
    • If you own multiple devices with Kindle apps installed, and/or a standalone Kindle device, tap the right arrow next to “Deliver to Devices” to select which devices you wish to send the book to.
    • If you want to keep the book in your online library, check the option for “Archive in your Kindle Library”.
    • Hit Send when done.
  5. Open your Kindle app or Kindle device. The book should download immediately and will be ready for reading.

  1. Click the MOBI (or EPUB) link in your email. Your browser will automatically download the file to your downloads folder.
  2. You can now send the file to your Kindle app or device in one of two ways:
